T-Rex Update and Free Weekend Promotion
July 28, 2011 – Mark it on your calenders! The Tyrannosaurus Rex arrives in Dino D-Day!
Accompanying the update will be a Free Weekend during which Dino D-Day will be on sale. We will be revealing more of what’s in the update in the coming days on this very website including screenshots of the T-Rex in action as well as two additional playable dinosaur classes that will ship alongside the T-Rex.
The T-Rex
T-Rex is our second playable big dinosaur class and much more involved than the Styracosaur. His primary weapons are a pair of MG42s that the Germans have bolted into the side of his enormous skull. The guns are of course not pinpoint accurate but there’s enough lead being thrown downrange to make up for it. Enemies out in the open that are caught in his sights are almost always cut down pretty quickly.
The T-Rex can also pick up 500lb bombs that the warring armies have carelessly left lying around the battlefield. After picking them up, the T-Rex can hurl them at the enemy as one might throw a grenade.
Next, the T-Rex has a “roar” attack which he can use against enemies that stray too close to him. By pressing ‘E’ (the use key) the T-Rex will let out a ferocious roar which will knock any enemy within range to the ground. Once the enemy is knocked down, the T-Rex can approach them, and then right-click to gobble the unfortunate victim down. This, incidentally, is the only means of restoring health for the T-Rex. He must EAT his enemy to gain health!
The T-Rex takes the most damage from explosive weapons (grenades, the PIAT, artillery strikes). Large caliber weapons do more damage than small, and certain pistols do no damage at all.
The T-Rex appears as part of the Axis team on the new map which will be described below. It is a Team Deathmatch game mode with random Axis players being selected to play as the T-Rex one at a time. 3 points are awarded for the death of a T-Rex to balance scoring.
Also shipping as part of the T-Rex update will be an SDK for Dino D-Day. So be thinking of maps and game modes you can create yourself for Dino D-Day!
